Stanton Social @ 99 Stanton Street (between Orchard St & Ludlow St)

This Lower East Side establishment with celebrity chef/owner Chris Santos was a hit! It is a small plates type of restaurant, great for get-togethers and parties. I made reservations for a group of 6 women for a long awaited gathering to catch up on life. Location was hard to find for me, especially on a rainy night and foggy goggles. I had to ask like 3 people before I found it. By the time I met up with the girls, I was literally drenched from head to toe (didn’t have an umbrella). There are 2 floors. Up a long flight of stairs was the bar and lounge area. Major dislike. What if a drunk person fell down the stairs? The main dining room occupied the first floor. Decor was sexy and intimate. Very clean, elegant, and inviting. Their beautiful flash-based website reflects the atmosphere as well. Service was great. The hostess immediately asked for our jackets and hung them for us. When we were seated, the server was on top of his game. He made sure our wine glasses and water glasses were filled, and gave us his recommendations for the more popular small plates.

Stanton Social - Bruschetta Pumpkin Puree

Stanton Social - Bruschetta Pumpkin Puree

These complimentary bruschetta had a pumpkin puree on top. The puree had a smooth texture contrasted with the sprinkles of parmesan cheese on top and the crunch of the toasted bread. This was our opening dish for palates.

Stanton Social - French Onion Soup Dumplings

Stanton Social - French Onion Soup Dumplings

I distinctly remember seeing these French onion soup dumplings on Food Network’s “Best Thing I’ve Ever Ate”. There was exactly six, perfect number for us to each have one. I found this small plate to be subpar. In terms of taste it was good, but it was not great. These dumplings are served in an escargots dish with caramelized onions inside, topped with melted Gruyere cheese and skewered with a crouton. There wasn’t enough soup in each dumpling and the hardened cheese made it kinda dry! This reminded me of Shanghai soup dumplings, but it wasn’t even comparable. I prefer the original bowl of French onion soup to this dish.

Stanton Social - Potato & Goat Cheese Pierogies

Stanton Social - Potato & Goat Cheese Pierogies

Pierogies are traditionally boiled, baked or fried dumplings of unleavened dough stuffed with potato filling, sauerkraut, ground meat, or fruit. Stanton Social’s version was just stuffed goat cheese and mashed potatoes, with caramelized onions on top and truffle creme fraiche on the side. Absolutely scrumptious and creamy. A great recommendation from our server.

Stanton Social - Thai Spiced Baby Back Ribs

Stanton Social - Thai Spiced Baby Back Ribs

The Thai spiced baby back ribs were finger licking good. These ribs were covered with a hoisin bbq glaze with a side of jicama slaw & lemongrass oil on top. Gobbled up pretty quickly. It’s another great dish to try.

Stanton Social - Mac & Cheese

Stanton Social - Mac & Cheese

Comfort food is one of the best types of food. Stanton Social’s version of mac and cheese has chorizo & ovendried tomato. The top was crunchy and toasted nicely. Cheese was melted throughout the dish. Yum!

Stanton Social - Old School Meatballs

Stanton Social - Old School Meatballs

The Old School Meatballs are layered with fresh basil & ricotta ‘manicotti’. These were a table favorite as well. Tomato sauce was seasoned nicely, covering each meatball. Clean taste and the size of the meatballs were pretty big.

Stanton Social - Maryland Jumbo Lump Crabcake 'Corn Dogs’

Stanton Social - Maryland Jumbo Lump Crabcake 'Corn Dogs’

A twist on crabcakes! Great concept. Jumbo crabcake formed as a corn dog. Chopsticks was used to hold the corn dog. We only ordered a plate for 3 since it was very pricey. $12 for 3! The dipping sauce was yummy though :)

Stanton Social - Grilled Ovendried Tomato Pizzetta

Stanton Social - Grilled Ovendried Tomato Pizzetta

Simple at its best. This thin pizzetta has fresh mozzarella & grana cheese, roasted garlic & chile oil. If you can make a cheese and tomato pizza right, you can’t go wrong with the other foods! Savory and great for sharing.

Stanton Social - Barbeque Duck Confit & Black Bean Empanadas

Stanton Social - Barbeque Duck Confit & Black Bean Empanadas

The bbq duck confit and black bean empanadas were absolutely satisfying. They sit in their own smoked tomato sauce & blood orange jam is on the side for dipping. Another table favorite.

Stanton Social - The Chocolate Tasting

Stanton Social - The Chocolate Tasting

This platter of chocolate goodness is for all chocolate lovers. From molten s’mores cake, panna cotta, pudding, peppermint patties, to chocolate dulce de leche ice cream, it is a true sampler of all kinds of chocolates.

Stanton Social - Chai Crème Brulee

Stanton Social - Chai Crème Brulee

Chai crème brulee has 2 spiced ‘misfortune’ cookies. It was the least favorite of the desserts ordered. There was something off putting about the taste, but I am not sure how to describe it. Texture was creamy and the top was scorched correctly. People don’t usually eat their fortune cookies, but I always do! They were crispy and had that normal fortune cookie texture to it.

Stanton Social - "misfortune"

Stanton Social - "misfortune"

From the spiced ‘misfortune’ cookies that rang true. I thought it was very fitting for a group of sorority girls =P

Stanton Social - The Red Velvet 'Twinkie'

Stanton Social - The Red Velvet 'Twinkie'

Stanton Social version of red velvet cupcake with cream cheese and crème fraiche filling – in a twinkie style! Great concept that was executed correctly. Reminds me of the yellow twinkie but definitely taste a lot better! I want another one right now. Overall, our service was great. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was perfect. Only dislike is the prices! So expensive for each small plates. Cannot come here with a tight budget or if you’re on a diet, because you will want to try every small plates on the menu.
