Moisturizers Review

REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream - Sensitive Skin

REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream - Sensitive Skin

Pros: I love this moisturizer. Applies smoothly on my skin and doesn’t leave a messy oily residue. Great for sensitive skin! It was one of the reasons why I purchased it. To live in a city with so much pollution and what not in the air, this product helps to calm the skin. It is also marketed as anti-aging formula for it helps to fight signs of premature aging with antioxidants. I carry this in my gym bag everyday and it comes in handy when I need to shower after the gym. It is very hydrating and there is a nice clean scent to it!

Cons: Price tag! It costs $55 on Sephora :(

Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

Pros: A popular moisturizer by Clinque. The price is decent. For  4.3 oz bottle, it’s $24.50 on Sephora. It’s the 3rd Step to Clinque’s Three Steps Skincare System. Made for the dry to combination skin type. It does the job to moisturize, but I wonder how my skin would look and feel with the first 2 steps products. I leave this bottle at home to use after my showers.

Cons: I hate the pump bottle. Clogs up easily and it squirts out alot of lotion at once in the beginning. Only towards the end of the bottle, will it pump up the correct amount.  Marketed as a lightweight formula, it still leaves an oily residue on my skin until it fully absorbs.

Overall, I prefer the REN products for my skin. Even though it’s sold at a steep price, the results are amazing. You can feel and see the difference after using it. Clinique will always have a special place in my heart. They are a reputable skincare line with great products and will always be a popular choice amongst women of all ages.

Facial Cleansers Review

Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser

Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser

Pros:

  • Stays true to its name. Frothy. You only need a small amount and it lathers up really well.
  • Aromatic Bergamot, Spearmint and Lavender scent leaves your face feeling refreshed. I love it!
  • “Broad Leaf Kelp Extract discourages excess oil production, while Wheat Protein balances and protects dry prone zones.” – Origins. Definitely works well to balance out oily and dry combination skins.

Cons:

  • Price! It’s about $20 for a 5.0 ounce tube on the Origins website.
Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash

Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash

Pros:

  • This is an oil-free gel face wash.
  • It serves as a gentle exfoliator with micro-beads. I can feel the micro-beads on my face, but they dissolve really quickly.
  • The scent is really nice. My face feels refreshed. Great to use daily.

Cons:

  • It’s not as foamy as advertised.
  • A lightweight formula that makes me feel not as clean.
  • From Sephora’s website, it’s $22 for a 6.7 ounce bottle – cheaper if you can find it elsewhere.

Overall thoughts: I prefer Origins. My face feels cleaner and their scent still lingers. Their formula is also thicker, so I don’t need to use as much in one wash. I say, splurge on your skin when you’re younger. It’s important to be on top your game now, rather than play catch up when you’re older.

My New Toy: Clara

Today is the start of Sephora’s 15% off week for V.I.B.s (Very Important Beauty…Insider.  Yeah, Sephora sort of messed up the whole acronym thing).  I’ve also accumulated a little over $100 in store credit and gift cards.  So I thought to myself, what the heck, I will splurge.

Clarisonic

Clarisonic Plus with Fresh - Pink (Box)

I’ve heard so many great things about Clarisonic, it was about time I joined the band wagon.  I originally considered getting the Clarisonic Mia, which is the smaller simpler version that is $76 cheaper.  I know the price tag on this is $225 + tax, but I figured, I get more bang for my buck!  First off, the Clarisonic Plus has three different speeds (Mia only has one), which I find useful since my t-zone is more sensitive, but the rest of my face can probably handle the normal speed.  I like to have options anyway!  This kit also gives you three brushes: normal, sensitive and body.  Other kits usually only give you one. Buying them individually, they’re $25 each, or $40 for a two pack.  Instead of giving you the clarisonic brand cleanser and lotion, you get a 1.7 oz bottle of Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ($15 value) and a 1.7 oz bottle of Fresh Soy Face Cream ($38) and a 2.0 oz of Clarisonic Refining Skin Polish.  The best thing is, I can fit it all in the little travel bag they gave me.  Seeing that I get a pink Clarisonic with 3 different speeds, 3 different brushes, 3 products (2 of which are Fresh!), $76 extra is worth it.  The 15% off and store credit/gift cards also helped to ease my guilty conscience :)

Clarisonic

Clarisonic Plus with Fresh - Pink

So I took everything out (featured above).  It says to charge the Clarisonic for 24 hours before using it, but whatever! I used it anyway.  It was much more gentle than I expected.  It’s a very light vibration.  You’re not suppose to press it up against your face either, just move it softly in a circular motion on your skin and let it do its magic!  The whole process should only take about 1 minute.  I don’t expect this to work after one use, but I did think my face felt softer afterwards.  I’m hoping after a couple weeks, I’ll notice a significant difference!  I’ve been breaking out recently and I am desperate to find a remedy.  Don’t let me down Clara!  That’s what I’m going to call my Clarisonic from now on.  And yes, I have issues.

On a side note, I think I’ve hit a new low in terms of laziness.  I invested in an automatic toothbrush end of last year.  Now I have an automatic face cleaner.  I’m just one step away from being willing to pay someone to hold my tooth brush and Clara for me, aren’t I?  Anyway, I will update with results in about a month.  Lets hope I have the discipline to use this everyday!
